Then, when I looked at the directory, I saw that the *zip* file had somehow grown from 284K to something like 3 meg! I immediately thought: virus. However, I scanned with the latest virus scanning software, found no trace, so decided the zip file must be defective. I deleted the file, grabbed gus411.zip from submit at orst (same length, date, etc.), and tried to unzip. My unzipper reported an error this time, and wouldn't unzip it. Very strange. Well, for the time being I'm happy with 3.11, but any explanation of the above behavior would be interesting. It will not be a gravis board. I intend to find a company which has the resources to fully support their products. This opinion is based on the current state of NO OS/2 drivers, NO Participation in the WIN95 beta, EVERY ( it seems like, probably not acurate) new game released causing some glitch, Even ongoing issues with the windows drivers. I love the GUS when it works. The price was great, but I am faced with a future in which it works less and less. I've tried four different memory managers with I've been playing XCom 2 for a week now with no error like you describe except for a few random squeals before startup and the battlescape scene. I noticed that the GF1.com and ultramid versions shipped with XCom2 were the old ones so I replaced them with the newer ones. (I believe I'm using v1.12 now). The squeals remained. The only problem I really don't like is that I can't have my GUS playing digital sound and run the animations at the same time. If anyone knows a solution for that problem I'd love to see it. Why not? and so on.. Isn't it Gravis' Job to make sure that its soundcard is supported? Haven't they ever heard of proper marketing? I want the GUS to be number one just as much as everyone else, but until Gravis sorts its act out I fail to see this happening. I want a card that plugs in and works (with everything), sure its fun to mess around with DMA's etc. but only to a certain extent. Which port/DMA/IRQ settings should I set the > Gus/SB16 to in order to accomplish all of this? It certainly is possible because I run my AudioTrix PRO now as the primary card and the GUS as secondary. I use IRQ 10, 9, and 5 for the ATPRO and 12 and 5 for the GUS. Note that the first card installed will be considered the primary card. You can determine which one is (and in fact change it) by looking at the AMP-MIX section of the MMPM2.INI file. The primary card is the only choice for system sounds and movie playback where either can be used by the Digital Audio and MIDI applets. You should choose one of the three free 16-bit DMA channels (5-7) for each of the cards. Robert. - -- Robert J. Manley President, Multi-Player Computer Adventures Inc. For example while playing a song in Recording Session can I record the same song in Power Chords Pro? WHY? Simple: Because in Recording Session I have the ability to change volume and panning on-line but this feature is just for playback, i.e. it is not recorded (as far as I know). It is time-consuming to insert a gradual panning effect, surely recording it above mentioned way would be much much better (if technically possible). Speaking as a programmer who's used the Gravis SDK and the Creative SBK, the former is free and excellent, the latter costs US$100 and sucks. Though I'm sure a "real" sound-system bod wouldn't use these anyway. The GUS has a fairly simple hardware level layout, the SB16 at least looks a little muddled. From a performance point of view most used sounds can be downloaded to DRAM so that the GF1 does the hard work and the CPU can draw pictures. i.e. Did anyone keep Doom I, V1.2. The sound on that was rockin'.I think recycled code is probably the problem - who needs to hire a sound-system bod when you can re-use what the last one wrote.
